Aadi Perukku (Pathinettam Perukku) - Tamil Special

Aadi Perukku, also known as Pathinettam Perukku is a unique Tamil festival that marks the beginning of monsoon in Tamil Nadu.

It is celebrated every year on the 3rd of August (18th day of Tamil Aadi Masam). The main purpose of this festival is to pay tribute to water’s life-sustaining properties. Aadi is the month for sowing, rooting, planting of seeds and vegetation since it is peak monsoon time when rain is showered in abundance.

On this day thousands of devotees bathe in the holy river Cauvery and wear new clothes. The women worship Goddess Parvati and offer her different kinds of rice like sweet pongal, coconut rice, curd rice, lemon rice, Bahala rice and tamarind rice.

After the puja the entire family feasts at the bank of the river Cauvery.

Mulaipari (Sprouting or Germination of Nine Grains or Navadhanyam in a basket or clay mud pots) is a very important ritual which takes place at almost every village.

Cycle Pure wishes you a blessed Aadi Perukku.
