The auspicious festival of Hariyali Teej is observed on the 3rd day of Sawan month and hence also called Sawan Teej. This festival is majorly observed by women by observing fast for the better life of their husband.
In Hindi, Hariyali means green or greenery and Teej mean festival.
On this day devotees worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati to seek their blessings. It is considered to be a festival that celebrates the reunion of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is believed that Goddess Parvati undertook a strict fast and 108 rebirths to have Lord Shiva as her consort. Following the same ritual, married women undertake fast (non-consumption of food and water) the whole day and the fast is usually broken only after worshipping of the moon after sunset.
Women on the day of Hariyali Teej dress up as a bride and prefer to wear red or cream coloured clothes. They apply mehndi as well as colourful bangles. Teej katha is one of the special parts of Hariyali Teej celebrations.
It is believed that devotees observing a fast on this day are blessed with Happy Married Life. Have a happy Hariyali Teej.
